Sustainable Music Habits 🌱

Environmental, social and governance reporting (ESG) has really taken off over the last few years, and in the future we expect it’s something that every business will want to consider.

If you’re anything like me you’ve probably listened to a few (hundred) hours of Fleetwood Mac whilst working. But have you ever thought about the environmental impact?I have! And so has the New Statesman. It’s fascinating to see streaming music can actually be worse for the environment than buying a CD.

Vinyl and CDs obviously use a lot more physical material, but it appears that it’s an upfront environmental cost that remains static overtime. With streaming on Spotify there is a continual environmental cost to find, retrieve and serve up that song you love, every time you hit play. Clocking up more than 5hrs listening to an album? You should have bought that CD (more than 18hrs and even the heavy, plastic Vinyl is better. 🔁
